SONG OF ONE MOMENT

A MOMENT'S SONG

I wrote you a letter,
in which I said
don't wait for me.
For you will be alone.

Chorus:
You can wait for me
but then you'll be alone
You can wait for me
and write me
a moment's song.

You can wait for me
in the neighbourhood cafe,
with a cappuccino
and cake on the side.
You can wait for me
with all the love,
but you will wait alone
I'm going out just for a moment
Don't say
why didn't I warn you
earlier
I just went out for a moment
- the tears are again
streaming by themselves
to the warm grave.

A moment's song
a golden opportunity
she's suddenly alone
in pain she then
remembers,
hurts,
in movie,
seeking,
yelling,
asking -

God,
give me back the child
and so she sits
losing the advice
pen in hand,
a white page
imbuded with tears
an envelope without an address
enduring to write the message
another young bird that went up
Jacob's ladder.

Chorus

It's hard to wait
not differentiating
between day and night
you left the house
dressed in green uniform
cold hands on the weapon
weeping eyes
A moment's song
in a moment can change life.

How much more time
can (we) wait
God,
How many mothers
will continue to cry
losing a person dearer than gold
a soldier who would not follow
a wasted dream.

She waited for him,
warm, cold, good, bad
no voice or answer
what happened to him
time stops moving,
the clock does not tick
and each knock on the door,
your heart beats
rises and gets shattered
and you drown in despair
not to see him again
seems so weak
waiting
like a dry flower on a fresh grave
but he also waits for you
over there on the other side.

I am waiting
still standing by the doorstep
waiting for you
and thinking only of you
waiting
missing you
waiting for you
thinking of you each moment
writing you a song in a moment.

Chorus

I wrote you a letter, in which I said
don't wait for me.
For you will be alone.

Hebrew words

Note:
The song was written in the memory of Ya'akov Paz - an officer in the Navy who died on March 11, 1978 at the age of 24 in a Fatah bus hijack. Following his death, songs and letters he wrote and kept only to himself were discovered. "Shir shel rega echad" is one such letter/song he wrote describing his fate.
