Vekoloteinu chazru eleinu uvachu vetzachaku bifnim.
Hachipusim achar g’di o achar ben
Hayu tamid
Hatchalat dat chadashah beharim ha'eleh.

ARABIC SHEPHERD SEARCHES FOR GOAT ON MTZION
An Arab shepherd searches for his goat on Mount Zion,
While on the mountain opposite, I search for my young son.
An Arab shepherd and a Jewish father
In their temporary inadequacy.
Both our voices meet above,
Over the Sultan’s Pool, in the valley between.
Both of us, trying to prevent
Son and goat being caught in the toils
Of the vicious circle of “Chad Gadya”.
Later, we found them amidst the bushes,
And our voices returned to us, crying and laughing within.
Searches for a goat or a son
Have always given
Rise to new faiths in these hills.
