FRUIT OF YOUR GARDEN
It is a starry night, the moon comes up You sit there staring into darkness The hour passes, a day, a year And you still wait for him The hour passes, a day, a year You are still lost, captive of faith
You ask for the fruit of your garden Who will tell you? Who will answer you? Your pain in bitter, days pass You were left alone, wanting to believe That here comes the time When he promised to come back That here comes the time When he promised to come back
Grief is wrapping you in silence The with stays in your heart The hour passes, a day, a year And you still wait for him The hour passes, a day, a year You still remember, you don’t believe
You ask for the fruit…..
You ask for the fruit of your garden Who will tell you? Who will answer you? Your pain in bitter, days pass You were left alone, wanting to believe That here comes the time When he promised to come back That here comes the time When he promised but didn’t come back
Song also sung by Aviva Avidan and also by Aviva Avidan with Eli Luzon.
Yoni Ro’eh wrote the song about his classmate, childhood friend, first lieutenant Chen Brod who was killed in October 1985 while serving in the Israeli Army on the foot of Mount Dov in the North of Israel. After Chen was killed, Yoni sat with a friend who asked him why he doesn’t say hello to Chen’s mum. Yoni replied that he didn’t recognize her. In her sorrow the mother neglected herself. After the incident he came home and wrote the song.
The clip was filmed in Shirim Bakikar (Songs in the Square). This event takes place in Kikar Rabin in Tel Aviv on the evening of the Memorial Day to the fallen soldiers.
