WATER FOR KING DAVID

And David thirsted for water
from the well in the hands of the Philistines.
To fulfill his wish
three heroes went forth.

They hurried to Bethlehem
to draw from the well.
On the way they told each other
tales of valour.

CHORUS

Water for David the King.
Water, water for David!
Water for David the King.
Water, water for David!

Said one of them:
"Listen! A mountain barred the way -
I laid my hand on it and
the mountain gave way.

The second said:
"Listen! A river blocked my path.
I raised my voice and -
the river stopped."

CHORUS

The third without a word
cleft the Philistine camp
and carried off the well and all its water
on his back

Then David sang a song
to the three heroes.
They added a verse to the Bible
and since then we sing -

CHORUS

IL RE DAVID VUOLE L’ACQUA

Il Re volle acqua del pozzo
ch'era in mano ai Filistei.
Furon scelti tre ragazzi
fra i soldati Ebrei.
Sulla strada di Betlemme,
in missione per il Re
raccontaron l’uno all’altro
gesta (ognun di s?).

“Il Re David vuole l’acqua:
Sia portata l’acqua al Re!
Il Re David vuole l’acqua:
Acqua per il Re!”

Disse il primo: “Senti questa:
c’era un monte in fronte a me.
Gli ho assestato una manata,
ora pi? non c’?!”
Il secondo fece: “Un fiume
m’impediva di passar.
L’ho sgridato. Il fiume smise
di gettarsi in mar!”

“Il Re David vuole l’acqua:
Sia portata l’acqua al Re!
Il Re David vuole l’acqua:
Acqua per il Re!”

Senza dire il terzo balle
il nemico conquist?,
prese l’acqua e il pozzo in spalle
e dal Re torn?.
Quando il Re seppe del fatto
scrisse un salmo per i tre
e da allora nella Bibbia
questo passo c’?:

“Il Re David vuole l’acqua:
Sia portata l’acqua al Re!
Il Re David vuole l’acqua:
Acqua per il Re!”
