BAT YIFTACH

Sach yomi la'erev:

"Yafim harei Gil'ad!..."
Veleili hu teref
Lagai shebamorad...
Lir'oti nichsafu
Taliyot asher nahagti el shoket,
Chodashai chalfu
El avi im shachar elakach.

Uri bat! Bat Yiftach!
Al harim od lan hasheket,
Hen nitzach vayitzlach
Kol am Gil'ad!

Uri bat! Bat Yiftach!
Mikravot kvar shav haneshek.
Ki lakachat -
Lo nish'kach alumayich, bat!

YIFTACH'S DAUGHTER

Daughter of Yiftach (Jepthah)

The day tells the evening:

"The mountains of Gil'ad (Gilead) are beautiful!..."
And my night is prey
To the valley in the foothills…
It is me they seek,
The lambs I took to the spring,
But now my months (of respite) are over
And, at dawn, to my father shall I be taken.

Awake, O daughter! Daughter of Yiftach!
The mountains are still cloaked in silence,
For indeed, the people of Gil'ad
Have all been victorious and triumphant!

Awake, O daughter! Daughter of Yiftach!
Weapons now long returned from battle.
For 'tis your youth they come to take -
O daughter - which we shall not forsake!
