HAKAYITZ AVAR

Hakayitz avar, hachom hagadol
Shanah chadashah ba'ah lachol.
Ruchot menash'vot, nodedot tziporim
Holchim uva'im hayamim hakarim.

Habitu ure'u katontei etmol
Hakayitz avar va'ani k'var gadol.
Shanah chadashah hitchilah hayom
Heyi na tovah uvo'ech leshalom.

THE SUMMER IS OVER

The summer is over with heavy heat thrall,
New Year’s at the threshold, along with the Fall.
Winds are a-blowing and birds on the wing,
Cold days lie ahead and are nearing for all.

Look at me, everyone – yesterday, I was small
But summer is over and now I’m all grown.
The new year today is only beginning:
May it come in peace and be a good one.
