Oshik Levi

Israeli singer Oshik Levi named his album “But everyone” (Aval Kulam) after the title song, which is the catch cry used by Israeli youth to put their parents at ease when going out on the town. Oshik’s high school aged daughter used to go out at 1am and return several hours later telling him everyone is going to be there, his response was typical of every parent, everyone is not you, to me you are the entire world.

The song also talks about or perhaps to Israeli youth whose parents not only have to wait for them to finish their compulsory military service only to see them head off to some remote village in India, Thailand, Australia or New Zealand where other perils such as drugs await the uninitiated.

Oshik Levi’s career followed a typical one for singers in his time, singing to his family at celebrations, joining an army entertainment troupe, and then forming the “twin trio” with Chanan Goldblatt and the now very pious Pupik Arnon, then going solo singing mainly songs written by others.

His romance with children's music began while singing in the children songs festival and on television on the popular educational program “Bli Sodot” (without secrets) which enjoys re-runs on the now multi channel Israeli TV.

His latest album also asks the question “Where did we go wrong?”

“We burst North and South all the way to the sea, However, along the way, we overlooked another nation, Which lived here, and it likes us wants to taste milk and honey.”

To correct, to educate to recognise the mistake we have made That is where we went wrong, We did not do well, and that is Where we might find the answer. “

This song was written more than 30 years ago after the Yom Kippur war for singer Oshik Levi by Zed Teneh and put to music by Naphtali Alter.

Much soul searching is taking place in Israeli society the answer is still far from forthcoming.
